On October 1st, 1998, Earthworks Marlborough Ltd became the new name for Clifford Land Developments Ltd, which was established in 1976 and was principally involved in agricultural contracting and farm development, initially with two bulldozers. Following the downturn in New Zealand's primary industry, the company took its first steps into the competitive contracting industry in the early 1980s carrying out local body work such as road construction including blasting, road alignment and widening, river protection and containment works.
Further expansion took the company onto larger contracts and a more diversified client base which now includes:
-
Small to large scale dam construction
-
Quarrying
-
Vineyard development
-
Large contouring/leveling projects
-
Major local contracts for earthworks and blasting
-
Sub-division construction
-
Road construction
-
Pipeline construction
The company now employs over 80 personnel and has an annual turnover in excess of $13,000,000 with plans for further expansion in the contracting and mining industry; to this end it holds accreditation under ISO 9002 with Telarc New Zealand, along with holding ACC accreditation to a territory level. Earthworks Marlborough Ltd is also a member of the New Zealand Contractors Federation Inc.
We have an exemplary safety record and a fully integrated Health and Safety programme and our staff's qualifications cover safety supervisors, engineers, project managers, construction blasters, quarry managers, traffic managers and foremen.
We are presently constructing 4 silt control and tailings dams for Oceana Gold in Reefton. These dams are constructed in difficult terrain with two being in excess of 35 metres high. 350,000 m 3 of selected fill is needed to complete them. Construction plant includes 45 tonne, 30 tonne, and 20 tonne excavators. A fleet of six articulated Dump Trucks with 30 to 36 tonne capacity, Rex and Komatsu compactors, Graders, Dozers, Water Carts and other plant as required. This contract is due for completion in October 2005.
Along with other substantial day-to-day works we have recently completed a New Zealand society of Large Dams rated Medium Hazard Dam here in Marlborough. The construction of this Dam involved the moving of 370,000 m3 of earth over a nine month period. The dirt was moved mainly by our two twin engine Terex 14G Motor Scrapers working a double shift (Day & Night) system. The scrapers were backed up by the usual Dozers, Water Carts, Graders and Compactors.
